چکیده
Recall that the “coefficient reduction” process reduces each μij to |μij | ≤ 1/2 without affecting the orthogonalized sequence and therefore without affecting the potential function. Once “coefficient reduction” has been performed, we check the second property. If there is some i with ‖bi+1‖ < 1 2‖b ∗ i ‖, we simply swap these two elements. This will change the orthogonalized vectors bi and b ∗ i+1, but the potential is only affected by: Pnew Pold = ‖(bi )new‖ ‖(bi )old‖

An Improved Line-Separable Algorithm for Discrete Unit Disk Cover
Given a set D of m unit disks and a set P of n points in the plane, the discrete unit disk cover problem is to select a minimum cardinality subset D′ ⊆ D to cover P. متن کاملOracle Tractability of Skew Bisubmodular Functions
A key task in combinatorial optimisation is the minimisation of discrete functions. Important examples are submodular functions, see e. g. [6, 13, 14, 17], and bisubmodular functions, see e. g. [2, 6, 14, 16]. These functions can be viewed as (special) functions from D to R where D is a 2-element set for the submodular case and a 3-element set for the bisubmodular case. Fix a finite set D. One ...
متن کاملProximity theorems of discrete convex functions
Aproximity theorem is astatement that, given an optimization problem and its relaxation, an optimal solution to the original problem exists in acertain neighborhood of asolution to the relaxation. Proximity theorems have been used successfully, for example, in designing efficient algorithms for discrete resource allocation problems. After reviewing the recent results for $\mathrm{L}$-convex and...
متن کاملDirected domination in oriented hypergraphs
ErdH{o}s [On Sch"utte problem, Math. Gaz. 47 (1963)] proved that every tournament on $n$ vertices has a directed dominating set of at most $log (n+1)$ vertices, where $log$ is the logarithm to base $2$. He also showed that there is a tournament on $n$ vertices with no directed domination set of cardinality less than $log n - 2 log log n + 1$. This notion of directed domination number has been g...
متن کاملCounting entropy in causal set quantum gravity
The finiteness of black hole entropy suggest that spacetime is fundamentally discrete, and hints at an underlying relationship between geometry and ”information”. The foundation of this relationship is yet to be uncovered, but should manifest itself in a theory of quantum gravity. We review recent attempts to define a microscopic measure for black hole entropy and for the maximum entropy of sph...
